Early Monday morning, Springdale offensive lineman Mitch Smothers decide to join the Arkansas Razorback's 2011 recruiting class. He becomes the Hog's seventh verbal commitment.
"It just felt right," Smother said of his reason for choosing Arkansas. "It's hard to explain, just the felling that I got with Arkansas."
Smothers, 6-foot-4/295 pounds, chose the Razorbacks over a pair of fellow SEC teams.
"My final decision came down to Arkansas, Auburn, and Alabama." Smother said. "I was able to visit Auburn and Alabama this weekend and felt like I had enough information to make my choice."
Auburn held their second annual big cat weekend and was able to gain a commitment from Arkansas quarterback Kiehl Frazier. Smothers, who will plan on the offensive interior, decided staying in state was his best option.
"I have a pretty good relationship with the Arkansas coaches." Smother said. "The last time I visited was for the spring game and I really enjoyed it. I was born in Rogers and it is a dream come true to be a Razorback."
Smothers said that his family are Arkansas fans but in the end that had no bearing on his commitment.
"I had to look at each school," said Smothers. "All three are good schools but with Arkansas it was just the feeling, no other way to explain it."
Smother will join Frazier and fellow Arkansan Brey Cook in early January during the Under Armour All-American Game.
