Rashad “Ky” Madden, a 6’5 Arkansas junior, and one of the top guards in the 2011 class, states that he has received new offers recently from Georgia Tech and Marquette, to add to those he already held from Kentucky, Baylor, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Memphis.
Madden’s AAU season began this past weekend with an exhibition against The Wings rivals of 30 years, the Memphis YOMCA squad.
“We started off slow, but we picked it up,” he said. “We played good as a team, we picked it up after the first part and we won.”
On his 22 point second half performance in that game,
“I was just getting to the line and making my free throws (15-18),” said Madden. “The whole team played good, it was a team effort, it was more than just us three.” Madden said, referring to himself and fellow juniors Hunter Mickelson and Aaron Ross.
Friday, the Wings will start play at the Boo Williams Invitational in Virginia. According to Madden, they are matched up in their first game against the same Memphis Y team from a week ago.
The very next weekend is Real Deal in the Rock and the Wings will be looking to defend their home turf against many of the top players, teams in the nation.
“I think we stack up good (against the competition),” said Madden. “I am looking forward to playing against Mike Gilchrist.”
Here is how his recruitment is going with his five original offers;
Kentucky “They are really not on me like they were. I get letters from time to time, I haven’t gotten a call from Coach Cal or anything. I have talked to one of the assistants.”
Ole Miss “is on me pretty hard, I talk to them once a month or so, I probably call them twice a month, but they are on me pretty tough.”
Memphis “They are on me good too. I talk to the coaches, my cousin he’s real cool with the staff there. We’ve been to a couple of practices and games.”
Arkansas “is probably the hardest one recruiting me right now. They call and talk to my coach and my family. They try to get the word out everywhere to let me know how interested they are.”
Baylor “stays on me pretty good, but not like Ole Miss, Memphis or Arkansas or anything like that. I probably just talk to them maybe once a month. They talk to my sister, try to get her to talk me into coming there.”
“When I do decide, the major factors will probably be coaching and location,” said Madden. “I really like to stay home a lot and spend time with my family.”
There have been message board ramblings out there saying Madden may be leaving EPC. He had this to say concerning the chance that he would not play his senior season for the Warriors.
“No, I don’t really think that it will go that far. Hopefully I am still here, but I don’t know. This is where I want to be though.”
