Arkansas avoids APR penalties

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

The Razorbacks mens basketball program will not face losing scholarships or practice time due to its 886 APR score released today, the NCAA announced.

24 basketball programs were hit with penalties, including Syracuse which loses two basketball scholarships and UAB which loses two scholarships as well as having their practice time reduced. Portland State received the harshest penalty of all, a postseason ban as well as losing two scholarships and practice time.

Arkansas was granted leniency, partially based upon a one year APR jump from 755 to 933. It is that 755 score from the 2007-08 season that will keep the Arkansas APR score below 925 for the next couple of years, meaning the threat of losing scholarships and practice time will remain until it falls off the rolling four year average.

Arkansas pass-catchers listed among SEC’s best

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

ESPN’s Chris Low blogged today about the top pass-catchers in the SEC for the upcoming 2010 season.

Alabama’s Julio Jones and Georgia’s AJ Green, pre-season All-Americans according to Phil Steele, are mentioned as well as Darvin Adams of Auburn, Ashlon Jeffery and Weslye Saunders of South Carolina, Randall Cobb of Kentucky, Terrence Tolliver from LSU and Tennessee’s Luke Stocker and Gerald Jones.

Arkansas though, was deemed worthy of having four pass-catchers listed among the best in the SEC; Greg Childs, Joe Adams, Jarius Wright and DJ Williams. Not to mention Razorbacks freshman Cobi Hamilton, who Low says could be the most explosive threat on the team.

Fortson led the Razorbacks in scoring at 17.9 points, assists at 5.7, steals at 1.4 and turnovers at 5.1 per game. After the season, the sophomore was named to the All SEC second team.

It is being widely assumed that Fortson will not be drafted and will end up playing in Europe.

Ratliffe to Missouri?

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

According to numerous social media sites (facebook and twitter) Juco PF Ricardo Ratliffe has committed to the Missouri Tigers while on his weekend visit. Among all of the tweets and posts, the most telling one was from Ratliffe’s own facebook page this afternoon.

“Sorry Alabama, Cincinnati, Arkansas, and Clemson, but I will be attending University of Missouri!!!!”

While there are plenty of bogus facebook pages out there, this one appears to be legitimate. Now, nothing has been 100% confirmed, but all signs do point to that happening soon.

If confirmed, it will be a big blow to the Arkansas 2010 class. Stay tuned for more info on this matter.
