Preseason AP poll has the Hogs at #17

arkansas-football-pregameThe Razorbacks will start the season ranked at #17 in the Associated Press poll. Other polls have them ranked as high as #14, but most preseason publications have them finishing 3rd in the SEC West.

The first game of the season is set against Tennessee Tech, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Make sure you get there early as the Arkansas team is planning on making big noise this year with the superstar QB and receivers as well as an improved defense. Go Hogs!

secIt may be a little far-fetched, but Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel suggests the SEC's powers have been taking notes from the Big 12 and that they might one day try to orchestrate a similar maneuver to oust Mississippi and Mississippi State from the league and divide the pie two fewer ways.

 arkansas-football-pregameTom Keegan of the Lawrence Journal-World said a source close to the situation told him that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones -- a noted Arkansas alumnus -- is the driving force behind any interest the school may have in the Big 12. Jones wants Arkansas to play in a conference with former Southwest Conference partners Texas and Texas A&M, and, of course, he owns Cowboys Stadium, which is the most likely facility to host a championship game should the Big 12 get back up to a dozen teams.

FSU want out of the ACC?

LSU has a QB problem

lsuAs we wrote June 9, the LSU Tigers might lose four-star 2010 QB commit Zach Lee to the Los Angeles Dodgers, which picked him in the first round of this year's Major League Baseball draft.

The Tigers still have a chance to retain Lee, but if the incoming freshman (who has enrolled in summer classes in Baton Rouge) chooses baseball riches over the gridiron, coach Les Miles and his offensive staff need to find a replacement as the team's quarterback of the future behind juniors Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee.

UT, 3 others to the Pac-10?

pac-10AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will join the Pacific-10 Conference when a formal offer is made, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad on Friday.

Texas A&M, the Austin American Statesman reported, is torn between joining the Pac-10 or Southeastern Conference. The Aggies will have a 72-hour timetable to decide whether to accept the Pac-10's offer, the newspaper reported.

A formal offer from the Pac-10 could come as soon as this weekend, the newspaper reported.
